Ethiopian Community Los Angeles
We had the honor of developing the new visual identity for the Ethiopian Community of Los Angeles. Our approach focused on creating a graphic system centered around culture, belonging, and community representation.
The challenge was to design a brand that could honor the richness of Ethiopian culture while also feeling contemporary, accessible, and adaptable for a younger and more diverse audience in Los Angeles. The resulting identity balances tradition and modernity through a vibrant yet grounded visual system inspired by Ethiopian symbolism, traditional patterns, warmth, and collective spirit.
The project began with a collaborative discovery workshop designed to connect deeply with Ethiopian cultural identity and the experience of living that identity within Los Angeles. Through conversations around heritage, migration, connection, and community support, we identified the key emotional and visual pillars that would shape the identity system.
This process became the foundation for the entire brand development.
We developed a custom iconography system representing cultural symbols, meaningful references, and shared community values.
The entire process was collaborative, thoughtfully created with and for the community.
Results & Applications
The final outcome included a complete visual identity system featuring logo design inspired by the shapes and structure of Amharic characters, an illustrated icon set, a typography system, color palette, visual language, and branded applications across community programs, events, social media communication, and cultural initiatives.
The identity helps position the organization as both a cultural bridge and a space of belonging for the Ethiopian diaspora in Los Angeles.
We are happy and grateful to have been part of this process, and we hope the final result helps strengthen connections within the Ethiopian community in Los Angeles while supporting the growth of its initiatives and proposals.
